Having Problems with Your Ice Machine?

Simple Ice Machine Repair Tips and Tricks

The most common problem we at #1 DR Clean Ice Machines & Refrigeration deal with when it comes to ice machine repair, are machines that fail to make ice. Other problems can include ice makers which will not stop making ice or ones that just freeze up. Below are a few of the more common problems which makes an ice maker stop working.

When an ice maker does not make any ice:

  1. Make sure that the bail wire that is above the ice tray is still in the down position. Should it be up, it will turn off the ice maker.
  2. Check the water supply line, and make sure it has not become kinked, as this will cease the water supply.
  3. Make sure the fill tube which fills the ice tray has not frozen over. Should this be the case, then use a hair dryer to melt it.
  4. Look for ice in the mold, and make sure that the motor which operates the ice ejection arm is still working.
  5. Check the tap valve which connects the supply tube to the water.
  6. Check the solenoid.

How Ice Maker Work

Before you dive headlong into sorting out your ice maker problems, let’s take a quick look at how they work, as this will give you a better understanding of what could be wrong. An ice maker will receive its water via a small water supply line which runs from a refrigerator to a water pipe.

The water supply line goes to the water fill valve that is found in the refrigerator, that is controlled by the icemaker thermostat. The fill valve will carry water through the fill tube into a mechanized assembly which will include an ice mold. This is where the water will start to freeze.
